Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Pedro Neto.

Mikel Arteta is apparently keen to bring Pedro Neto to Arsenal.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, writing in his daily briefing update, “Arsenal have been monitoring Pedro Neto for some time.”

Neto is certainly an exciting talent. The 23-year-old winger has started the new season in fine form. He has already racked up one goal and five assists across his eight Premier League outings so far.

Wolves fans will be delighted to see Neto getting back to his best. The £50,000-a-week attacker sustained a serious knee injury in April 2021, which halted his progress and development for some time. However, the Molineux faithful will also be hoping that Neto’s return to form doesn’t immediately incite his departure.

Neto may have reservations about Arsenal switch

It is easy to see why the Gunners would be keen to add Neto to their ranks. Aside from the five-cap Portugal international’s obvious quality, he would also plug a clear gap in the north London club’s first team squad.

Arteta is currently extremely reliant upon Bukayo Saka to be fit and available for virtually every single match. As the only senior left-footed right-winger on the books at the Emirates Stadium, the England star doesn’t have a natural challenger for his place in the starting XI.

Neto would lend some much-needed support and competition to Saka. However, this could also put him off from joining Arsenal.

At Wolves, Neto is a star. He plays week in, week out, when fit. It is extremely unlikely that he would be able to usurp Saka as the main man on the right flank for the Gunners, so would have to satisfy himself with a back up role. At this stage in his career, that may not be a state of affairs that Neto is willing to accept.
